It has been a while . . .
Just some new pictures. We have a busy fun weekend coming up (shocking, I know!). Here are some photos of B&K playing and checking out K's new shoes (and showing on her new climbing skills).

Feminine
I think I'm done tweaking the look for now. I may tackle it more sometime this weekend. What do you think? Technically this is my blog about B&K . . . but I'm thinking all the pink & flowers may be a bit too girlie for someone like B-dude to hang out here. So I may change it up one.more.time. Thanks for your patience.
And I promise pictures soon!! :) B&K are still a bit out of sorts, which doesn't make for good photo subjects (although they had a good evening yesterday . . . I just didn't think to get the camera). Anyhoo I hope to have some new pics soon. I promise.

Transformation
I'm working on a new lay-out / header. Please bare with me . . . it make take a few days to decide on what I like. :)
In other transformational news, we unloaded some furniture this weekend and have fully converted the "family room" into the "play room" (I LOVE Craigslist!!!!!!!). On the one hand it is bittersweet, like so many other things we have removed / sold / donated from our lives. We had taken MANY a picture of B&K on that couch. We bought the couch to go in the family room before we even were officially in the house. We saw it in the store and went with it -- hoping it would actually fit in the space (and yes of course, it was a wicked deal!). It was a super duper comfy couch, too -- by far the best "nap couch" I've ever owned!!
But in a LOT of other ways selling that couch is very therapeutic for me. It was a reminder of very, very difficult days. If I could have, I would have burned that couch in all honesty. In the birth of this blog I was trapped on bedrest in my house. In the dead of winter. Confined mainly to the family room as I was only allowed to go down and then up the stairs in my home once a day. While I spent hours watching HGTV (and a little "The Price is Right") I literally redecorated the entire first floor of our home in my mind. Over and over and over again. And with an impending - most likely - premature birth and two additional headcounts to our family I never in a million years thought we'd actually carry through on these projects. But low & behold we have gone above & beyond all of the projects I could have dreamed:
- we painted the kitchen from a sunny, cheery, make-you-wanna-puke yellow to a nice neutral mocha.
- we replaced the horrid white laminent counter-tops (thank GOD for the magic eraser) with beautiful granite (and of course we scored a deal there, too!).
- we lightened the family room by painting the really, really dark knotty wood pine paneling a light cream / mocha color with crisp glossy white trim. Fabulous!
- once B&K gained more toys & mobility we quickly realized the value of an actual playroom. And so the family room became the playroom by moving the TV over the fireplace. This gave B&K room to play (and be quarantined) and it gave us an excuse to use our beautiful and rarely used living room.
- earlier this year we sold Tim's butter cream colored leather rocking chair. It, too, provided me some reprieve from bedrest (an hour treat each day!) and also a cute backdrop for some B&K pictures. But we didn't have another place for it in our home and we needed to make room for more baby crap. So we listed it on Craigslist (again -- love it!).
- and lastly saying goodbye to the couch. We had kept it as a place for us to sit while we hung out with B&K in their new digs, but we found that we mainly sat on the floor. It was a LARGE couch and it was about three days away from being a catapult for K to get over the gate (OK not quite yet, but soon enough I'm sure).
So there you have it. The last of my bedrest reminders are gone. Aside from moving into a new home (which we still may do -- ha!) I think I can finally move on. Whew!

MIA
Sorry -- it has been a bit exhausting around here. The weekend was busy with "Man Day" and "Girls Night Out" and other random weekend stuff. Bennett developed a nasty cough on Saturday which only got worse over the weekend and a trip to the pedi on Monday reveled that is is probably seasonal allergy related. But now Kendyll has the cough so we're thinking it is more like summer cold related. B has been just m-i-s-e-r-a-b-l-e this week - red puffy eyes, runny nose, chesty cough - and thankfully he was a bit back to himself today. But neither little one has napped well this week and last night was really rough. I'm dragging today and I just put B&K to bed an hour earlier than normal. Plus Tim was traveling earlier this week and has work dinners the rest of the week. Is it Friday yet?
In other news Kendyll is a full - on walker. Yes I announced this well over a month ago and she had been taking 2 - 5 steps in a row and standing on her own for LONG periods of time, but now she will walk from one side of the room to the other. From room to room. Sometimes carrying big things. And often stopping along the way to pick up something else from the floor. And she can stand up / start to walk from sitting -- she doesn't need to pull herself up on anything to get started. Oh fun.
We tried to take her to get "proper" shoes last weekend. Norstroms was having a wicked sale and I took her to get her feet measured and to check out some of the shoes. Unfortunately they didn't have anything in her size on sale and I couldn't bring myself to spend more money on her shoes (which she will out grown in a month) than I do on my entire shoe collection (I'm a bargain shopper, remember!?). Then while we were at the mall I figured I'd step into one of those dreaded Stride Rite stores. Um yeah, don't think I'll be doing that EVER AGAIN! Ugh, the lady there was one of the rudest, meanest, least helpful human beings I've ever met! I think I'm going to stick to my fellow twin mommy Meghan's strategy and order her some shoes online! Ugh . . . shoe shopping in person (with twins and one who is quite the diva) = royal pain in the ass.
Other than B's cold / allergies he is doing really well. Crawling all over the place, trying to pull up and talking up a storm. This morning he woke up earlier than normal and I brought him into our room while Tim & I got ready for work. He was sitting in the middle of our bed watching "Blues Clues" and I was getting ready to leave. I said bye and he looked up at me, waved and said "bye bye". Tim was my witness!!
Oh another thing I want to document before I forget . . . things are finally starting to click with them. Meaning they are really starting to understand questions / commands / associating words with things. Three times in the past week I've asked Kendyll: "go get your baby Kendy". She'll walk over to her chair, pick up the baby, rock her and bring her to me. The first time I figured it was a total fluke, but she's done it a couple other times (on separate days) since then. Totally weird! :)
Ok, I think that's enough for now. I hear someone coughing on the monitor so I better go get a couple of chores done before someone wakes up crying.

OUAC
If you've been reading this blog for a while you know I LOVE bargain shopping. Bennett has been using a ball popper toy at PT and he really enjoys it. While I was fully prepared to buy something similar brand new to use at home, I thought I'd check out one of my local Once Upon a Child consignment stores first. I scored not only the ball popper, but also a FP shopping cart that I had been hunting for Kendyll and a new little helicopter toy for both of them. And super score -- I bought them ALL for about what I would have paid for the ball popper alone. Woo-hoo!!

17 Months Old!!
In honor of B&K's 17 mo birthday I'm going to attempt to document 17 things about them:
1. BENNETT IS CRAWLING!!!! He started really moving 4th of July weekend and he is getting faster every day. He will also pull up to his knees. We are super duper proud of him.
2. Kendyll LOVES to be chased. While she would do much better if she were crawling, normally she'll grab something and start "walking" on her knees away from you, looking back to see if she is going to be caught.
3. B&K's favorite word is "no". Meaning, they think it is HILARIOUS when you tell them "no" to something . . . full-on belly giggles ensue. Fun times.
4. They are both trying to repeat words more often, but of course it doesn't really sound like what it is supposed to sound like.
5. Bennett can say: mama, dada, dog, baybe (for Tabasco), yeah and occasionally duck (which sounds more like the f-word).
6. Kendyll can say: mama, dada, dog (which sounds like dug), yeah, hot and occasionally a hi. Her favorite word by far, though, is uh-oh (which she hums more than says, but it super fun to hear her go "uh oh" over & over & over & over again on the monitor when she purposely throws her blanket out of her crib in the morning).
7. Now that B is mobile they seem to be playing together a bit more nicely. They will crack each other up and will tolerate the toy stealing a bit better (on both parts).
8. They LOVE bath time and playing in the baby pool. Bennett a bit more than Kendyll, but it is a good time distraction nevertheless.
9. Kendyll loves to sing. All.the.time. She hums to herself, she will sing with words you can't understand -- the girl loves music. She also likes to dance (as does Bennett).
10. Bennett is super smart. There - I said it. The boy can take apart and put back together correctly almost anything. He even figures out where things go (i.e. the ball in the ball popper) without being shown.
11. Kendyll is also good at taking apart & putting together things (like Lego's).
12. Bennett makes a gulping sound when he is chugging his milk or juice. Super funny.
13. Kendyll loves her baby doll (or any stuffed animal). She'll pick it up and hug and rock it (and then proceed to slam it into the ground).
14. We have transitioned them to one nap a day. Some days it is an awesome thing (like Saturday when they took a 3+ hour nap!) and others it is not so great (like yesterday when they woke up earlier than normal and only to a 2 hour - interrupted by Kendyll screaming twice - nap). We're still working on it . . .
15. They love to roam the house . . . we've been letting them "out" in the evenings and you'd think we had taken them to Disney or something.
16. They both love to read. They'll open any book and point out all of the objects, turn the pages and "read" aloud to you.
17. The cutest thing is when they make each other laugh in their room -- we will hear them crack up every so often and it makes me wish we had a video monitor so I could see what they are up to. :)
Birthday pics to come soon (fingers crossed that they cooperate).

We're a Zoo!!
On Saturday we took B&K to the zoo for the first time. Well technically B&K have been there a few times, but this was the first time we went as a family. The online Multiples group that I belong to has quite a few MoMs in the C-bus area. And although a few of us are in the twins club, many are not and we used the zoo as a good excuse to get together and meet up. Unfortunately Mother Nature decided to ruin our fun and most of us only stayed for a short while before it started to downpour. But hopefully we'll be able to try again in the fall.
Our good friends, the Thornhill Family, were there and Tim, B&K and I walked around with Marie, Jeff, Anna, Ava & Alexis. Oh what fun we had in the short time we were there!! As if we aren't enough of a freak show as it is, we both brought our Step 2 Choo Choo wagons. And Marie's girls were dressed alike and B&K's outfits coordinated as well. At one point all 4 of the multiples families were heading to the petting zoo . . . this lady behind me counted up all of the babies and asked: "is this a multiples group here or something"? I just looked back and said: "no, I don't know what you're talking about". As we were racing back to our car before it started to rain, Marie was walking ahead of me with her girls and this lady said: "oh wow -- look honey, quints". HA! And yet another lady commented: "oh look, those three are triplets and these are twins. Oh now wait, it is a boy & a girl -- they can't be twins". I just looked back and rolled my eyes.
We also had a glimpse at what a difference an additional child makes. Marie & I have lamented MANY a times at all of the inappropriate & ridiculous comments complete strangers feel OK to make (right in front of us and within hearing range, no less!). This guy started to approach the girls' wagon holding his daughter's hand and pointing at them repeatedly saying: "Look sweetie -- triplets! Look at the triplets!!". So a HUGE thanks to Marie & Jeff (again) for being our wingman at the zoo . . . Tim & I haven't felt that "normal" in about 17 months! Ha!
One last funny from the short day. At one point I was trying to describe to Tim who Erin was (she coordinated the event), telling him -- "Erin is the one with a little boy and b/g twins and she has the cool Valco stroller with the toddler seat". He just looked up at me and said "I can't believe you just described someone by the type of stroller they have". I can't help it -- remember my addiction??

Red, White & recap!
Wow -- what a busy, busy weekend!! Recap:
-- Friday Tim, his dad and a couple of friends went golfing while his mom & I got pedicures and then hung out with my parents and B&K all afternoon. We ate pizza and chilled with a few friends & our family on our patio all night -- a fun, fun way to kick off the weekend.
-- Saturday we loaded up B&K and walked over to the UA 4th of July parade. Our town has one of the largest / longest parades east of the Mississippi (I forget where I read that). This is our 3rd year attending the parade and I just LOVE it . . . many of the neighborhoods / streets and local businesses make their own floats and the community comes together for a super fun event. Although I'll admit the parade seemed shorter this year for some reason. Anyhoo Bennett LOVED the parade, waved his flag the entire time and clapped and cheered as all of the cars, bikes, bands and floats when by. Kendyll on the other hand -- she was more interested in walking up & down the sidewalk. . . first with Grandma Angie and then with me. Shortly before the end of the parade she decided she had HAD ENOUGH of it and Mom & I walked back to our house with her and Tabasco (yeah, carrying a 20lb baby 10+ blocks is not my idea of a fun time, but at least my arms will look kick-ass once I can finally use them again).

-- After the parade we treked back home to chill a bit, let the babies nap and make final preparations for our big par-tay. Tim was cooking the ribs in his new slow cooker and the cooking time gave us an opportunity to just chill before all of our guests arrived. Like last year, Tim outdid himself with the cooking -- YUM!
-- It was SO great to see all of our friends and family at the party. We had FIVE sets of multiples and one singleton at the party for a total of 12 (yes TWELVE!!!) children under 2 (yes TWO!!!) at the gig. It was sort of nuts at times and I'm pretty sure our friends Chad & Mandy will never have kids now (just kidding!) . . . everyone seemed to get along great and all of the playing seemed to tucker everyone out pretty quickly.
Bennett & his new girlfiend Mandy
-- We spent Sunday recuperating. B & K were still a bit "off" from all of the prior day's excitement . . . um at one point I walked in to find Kendyll standing in her crib with her diaper thrown on the floor. Yeah, that kind of day. She's been fighting some weird hives since Sunday night and both kiddos have still be so giving with their nasty diapers, but they are both back to good spirits (thank goodness!!).

Pics from last weekend
Good news -- B&K are almost back to 100%. Not sure what was up this week, but glad to see them getting back to normal. In other news we they are almost down to one nap a day . . . big time news!!
These pics were from last weekend. We had gorgeous weather and we did a "mock" run of our meal for this Saturday's festivities (and thanks to Nick & Jodi for being our guinea pigs). B & K had a fun time playing out on our deck while Tim worked on the meat.

Pooped out
I took Kendyll to the pedi yesterday. When I met up with Lauren and B&K for B's PT appointment miss K just wasn't herself. She wasn't eating, she looked pale and she was SUPER lethargic. She didn't get much better during the afternoon (she even took a 3 hour nap -- unheard of for miss on-the-go-diva!) so I called our awesome pedi's office at 3:15 and they had an appointment for her at 4:30. We have a million family & friends coming to town this weekend and we didn't want to take any chances (plus more importantly miss thang just wasn't herself).
Even after taking a LOOOONG nap, she was still super tired and was quiet on the drive to the dr's office. Once we were back in the room waiting on the dr she actually fell asleep in my arms for the first time ever in her life. You read that right -- miss I never sit still and even when I was in the NICU I was wide awake actually not only sat in my lap for longer than 5 minutes, she FELL ASLEEP IN MY ARMS! When Dr. Reis came in I looked up at him and said "this is how I know my daughter is really sick". :( I even took the pic below to send to Tim for proof. He ruled out bad stuff like ear infection, red throat and bladder infection. Seems to just be a weird bug. She had a fever yesterday but it seems to have passed. Both she & Bennett have been blow-out city over the past 2 days. Super fun. She's back to her peppy self (and B has continued to be happy, except for the blowouts). Fun times around here. I can't imagine this is a side effect of teeth for either of them -- Bennett is up to 16 (yes, SIXTEEN!!!!!) teeth and Kendyll is working on at least two more (which brings her up to 10 or 12 I think). Who knows . .. Tim & I are just hoping it doesn't hit us on the 4th!
K asleep at the dr's office

And knocked out on the floor when we got home. She NEVER EVER lays down like this in the play room.

for those coming to the party this weekend . . . I'll keep you posted if anyone takes a turn for the worst. Trust me when I say I have douched EVERYTHING in the play room and will continue to do so up until the party. We've had our house douched today, too! :)
In other totally unrelated news, would you please keep my friend Jenn in your thoughts and/or prayers? Her step-father Ron, who was very much a father to her, passed away yesterday. We are hoping to see her & her family this weekend, but I just wanted to send out our sympathies to her tonight.
